Sites that I go to from time to time

Walk The Line

Anybody walking the line this weekend?

I had always been aware of Johnny and June Carter Cash, but I never was deeply into their music. For me, Johnny Cash was the guy that pretended to be a preacher on an epsiode of Little House and the episode of Dr. Quinn that starred both he and June is one of the six episodes that I watched of that series and actually liked.

Then I saw the concert they had in tribute to him in the 90s where June performed "I Walk the Line" and that's where I really developed an appreciation for him (and June too). I was somewhat wary when they announced that they would do a movie about John and June.

I was also wary when it was announced that they would do a movie about Ray Charles. I saw Ray. I liked it. Though I still think that Don Cheadle should have won the Oscar, Jamie Foxx's win was well deserved.

A key difference is that Ray Charles was alive when "Ray" was produced and he had "editorial control" over how the story was told. "Walk the Line" of course was produced after both Johnny and June were dead. Their son was involved and at least one of his half sisters is not pleased with the portrayal of her mother and other aspects of her father's life in the film: http://entertainment.tv.yahoo.com/en...169210000.html

I think I will watch it. In case the movie is rotten, I will make sure that I will choose a theatre that carries "Chicken Little." It is also safe to say that I am usually found singing "Five Feet High and Rising," "Bird on a Wire," "Orange Blosson Special" and "Jackson" while typing.

And yeah, I suppose there will be a review of this somewhere...

Another Holiday

Today is Thanksgiving.

Depending on who you are, this holiday is a good one or a bad one.

There are some people who are adamant about recognizing that this holiday celebrates all that is evil about those who conquer and pillage. Others think of it as the celebration of perseverance and new beginnings.

Of course we know that this holiday is all about eating to full, sports and shopping (and oh yeah maybe family). At least that's what I have known this holiday to be.

I would like to see a return to people really being thankful-for the little things as well as the big. We should be doing this everyday but the crushing wheels of life get in the way. We do forget that we should be thankful for what we have and not for what we think we should have.

The holiday seasons are known for their excess. There once upon a time was some magical bar that was set as the standard and we are judged severely by it. The turkey is supposed to be a certain size, the presents are supposed to be a certain type. Being happy to be healthy and to have community-even with oneself-got lost somewhere.

Some people are rebelling. They are putting the "thanks-giving" back into Thanksgiving. I am one of them. I hope that there are others.

On Saturday, December 14th

I spent a good portion of the day watching the Flintstones holiday marathon (with some breaks for “A Christmas Story,” “Knots Landing”-the...
